*REVIEW* "Captivated (Talented Saga #3.5)" by Sophie Davis

I love these Novellas where the author explores what happened before the first book and sometimes in between the books in the series. This one is from Talia and Eriks point of view from the first moment they met to when Erik ends up captured in book 3. I feel like iIknow more about them and can understand Talia and Erik more. I especially liked when they first met and the end of the novella with Erik in the prison. Really really good and it has given me a taste for book 4.

Can't get enough of Talia and Erik? Want to know about their first meeting? Interested in what happens between the books? Dying for a peek at what's coming in Created?

Captivated is a Talented Novella that includes four short stories, two from Talia's point of view, and two from Erik's point of view. The first is a detailed account of what happened the first time Talia and Erik met. The second is all about Erik's trip to visit Talia after she was injured in Talented. The third takes place between Caged & Hunted, and gives you a glimpse at Erik's romantic side. And last, but certainly not least, the fourth story starts off right where Hunted ends.

Not recommended for anyone who has not read the first three books, unless you don't mind a lot of spoilers!

It was amazing! So much is going on in this book that i was so engrossed from the start. After finding out that Penny was the spy, Talia feels really betrayed so she sets off to Washington D.C. where she help with the testing that determines which children are talented and get to join the agency. But a lot of things are not adding up for Talia now and she starts to doubt the agency and their agenda.
I loved every minute of it and as the books go on, Talia is becoming quite a strong character and I love the relationship between Erick and Talia but I like that it doesn't overshadow the main storyline. I "gasped" a lot through this book as I couldn't believe how many secrets there were and no one is what they seem. I'm looking forward to reading book 4 as to me, this storyline only seems to be beginning.

In need of a distraction from her best friend's betrayal, Talia jumps at the chance to pack up and head to Washington, D.C., to have a purpose once again. She is tasked with administering the annual Talent Aptitude Tests, analyzing the children of the nation’s capital to identify those with powers. She knows that the Mandatory testing laws are controversial, but is still shocked by the protesters lining the streets of the city, and the curfew imposed upon its residents. These add fuel to her own misgivings about the Agency and its Director, the man who raised her.

As if Talia doesn’t have enough on her plate with that, the Director assigns her a task that will expose his dirtiest secrets. She soon learns that it isn't the children who are tested she needs to be concerned about; it's the ones who aren't. And when she encounters a face from her past, Talia must confront her toughest decision yet. Following her heart will put Talia and those closest to her in mortal danger. But the consequences of doing nothing are inconceivable.

The one bright spot in Talia’s new assignment is having her boyfriend, Erik, by her side. Because not only is Erik a source of comfort, but he is also as determined as she is to uncover the secrets behind the mysterious illness still plaguing her. Day after day, Talia never knows when she might be overcome by one of her unexplained seizures; she must pierce the veils of secrecy covering their origin, before someone decides she knows too much.

Life altering choices will be made. Loyalties will be tested. When the war begins, which side will Talia choose?

Well, Well, Well, This book was brilliant from the start. Talia has a brush with death and find out that there is a spy within the agency and Mac enlists Talia's help to find the spy. I really loved this book, even better than the first as there was so much going on and lots of twists and turns throughout the book. I always thought i knew who the spy was and then the story would take another dramatic turn and i would be confused again. It was amazing and i can't wait to see what happens in book 3. I love Talia and Erik's relationship but sometimes i couldn't help getting annoyed with Donovan and the way Talia is with him. I did end up shouting at the book! This book has left me really excited to read the next and find out what's really going on with the agency and who Ian Crane really is.

*** As of 5/26/2013, Caged has been re-edited and proofread ***

After her brush with death at Ian Crane’s compound, Talia Lyons feels like a prisoner, confined in her childhood home. Plagued with seizures- the result of an unidentified drug injected in her neck by Crane’s men- Talia must put her dream of becoming a Hunter on hold. So when Agency Director McDonough asks Talia to go undercover at the School for the Talented, to find the spy who set the trap for her in Nevada, Talia jumps at the opportunity.

Soon she learns that her new-found freedom comes with a price- working with Donavon on a daily basis. As if that isn’t awkward enough, her former teammate, Erik, also shows up at the School. But at least Talia has the unexpected company of her best friend Penny; to not only assist her in uncovering the spy, but also to deal with the complications that the guys create.

As Talia becomes more entrenched in her assignment, she quickly learns the lengths that the Agency and Mac will go in the name of war. With Crane’s influence spreading, Talia learns that there are few Operatives without ties to the Coalition. Forced to face hard truths and dangerous conclusions, Talia realizes that it is those closest to her who are hiding the biggest secrets. As the task of finding the traitor becomes more problematic, desperation and frustration rule Talia’s world. It becomes clear that Talia can’t do this alone. But who can she trust, when everyone around her is lying?

*REVIEW* "Summer of my Secret Angel" by Anna Katmore

I love a good angel book and this was definitely that. Jona gets into a lot of trouble as her mum dumped her in am Orphanage and she never saw her again, that was twelve years ago. Now she tries to survive by nicking and she ends up nicking a jumper and getting arrested. She has to do charity on her aunts vineyard in France but she has never met her aunt and discovers her mum is also going to be living there too. This is how she meets Julian, he's annoying, really gorgeous and keeps her on her toes but she has this attraction to him that she tries to keep under wraps. There are a lot of secrets going on and Jona is determined to find out what is going on especially the secrets involving Julian. I found it very gripping and i love the banter between Julian and Jona and there relationship was really heartfelt and so sweet. It was just a really light, happy, feel good book and i couldn't put it down. There was some sad moments when Jona and her mum have heart to hearts and when you find out that her mum is dying from cancer. Great writing and great author.

In 2013 this book has been published with the original first title LOVING YOUR LIES

He’s annoyingly gorgeous, provocative, and fast becoming her best friend. But he also has a secret that makes the little hairs on her arms stand on end...

It wasn't nicking an expensive watch or diamond bracelet that landed streetwise Jona Montiniere in the clutches of the police. It was a darn sweater. A judge decides that she has to return to her terminally ill mother, who dumped her in an orphanage more than twelve years ago. Worse, for the coming six weeks, she has to do charity work on an estranged aunt’s vineyards in France.

Yeah, right.
Jona is determined to sneak off at the first chance she gets. But then she meets Julian, her mother’s caretaker. Playful, understanding, and sinfully sexy, he’s everything she dreams of—but she’d be damned if she let him know.

So when the first week in her new home is over, Jona is asking herself two things. One, how could it happen that she ended up in Julian’s arms after only three days? And two, how the hell did he awaken her mother from the dead…?

*BLOG TOUR* - When It's Love by Emma Lauren

Synopsis
When Sydney Morrison learned the dark truth about who she really is, her whole world turned black. Tormented by her identity and deeply depressed, she confides in no one, not even her hot and adoring best friend, Henry.

Henry doesn't know the horrible secret of Sydney's past, but he does know about the epic crush she has on her famous writing teacher, Professor Sparling. Convinced she doesn't stand a chance with the professor, Sydney is shocked when he takes a special interest in her. The two begin a torrid online affair that pulls Sydney out of her shell and makes her feel desired and daring. And as Sydney tumbles into a journey that's erotic beyond her imagination, her relationship with Henry gets complicated.

Then Sydney's darkest secret begins to hunt her down just when she thinks she's escaping it. Suddenly nothing is what is seems to be and Sydney finds herself torn between truth and love.

Excerpt
Professor Sparling is so out of my league.  What he could he possibly see in me?  But he sees something, obviously, because he reached out to me, and I don’t want to lose his interest.  What I feel for him is pure passion and I’m exploding with it.  Of all the intense emotions I’ve experienced in life– rage, fear, depression and frustration – this passion is the only one that’s felt impossible to contain.

My hands are shaking as I type: Professor Sparling, I wanted to impress you because I’m drawn to you.

If only I could write just how drawn I am to him.  But that would come across either way too romantic, or way too forward.  It’s not like I can just write to my professor that I spent half of the time in his classes thinking about either kissing him for two hours straight, or unzipping his pants. I can’t even say that I’ve been waiting fourteen weeks for him to really notice me. But most of all, I can’t tell him that he’s the one I believe can lead me out of the dark places where all I feel are shame and grief.  I want to end my internal ache, push the pain away, and live the life of a normal college student.  College years are supposed to be carefree, but I haven’t gone to any parties. I never even go out for dinner unless the Harts invite me over to Ottawa Estate, or Henry drags me somewhere.  All I’ve wanted to do at Addison is be at home alone with my cats.  My most social activity is watching movies with Henry.  This little online flirty exchange, though, is giving rise to the part of me that has been totally shut down.  Apparently along with the sadness inside my body lives a full-fledged diva, and these emails are waking her up like a kiss from Prince Charming.  The diva’s voice is nothing like that of my withdrawn, anti-social persona who always dresses in gray and thinks she can’t compete with the Melanies of the world.
I stare at my computer screen waiting for a reply.  It comes within seconds.

Sydney, Please call me Paul.  And tell me, to which part of me are you drawn?

Call him Peter?  No way.  I can’t think of him as Paul.  Not yet, at least.  Part of the appeal, after all, is the fact that he’s my professor.  I bet he’d like it if I dressed up as a schoolgirl in a teeny pleated, plaid skirt.  I’m sure he would teach me a lesson or two!

I can’t believe this is happening.  I am flirting with Professor Paul Sparling, man of my dreams, or at least man of my sexual fantasies.  I wished for this a million times, but I never expected it to come true.   And I never imagined it would begin with email.

What was your main inspiration?

I had the characters of Sydney and Professor Sparling rolling around in my head.  I thought I’d write a short story about them, but I quickly realized I could weave a much longer story around them.  When I decided to write a novel, I knew I wanted to write a book that people could connect to and that had the elements I love in a book: romantic, sexy, funny, and moving.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I don’t know that I have a specific style, but I do try to be concise.  I wouldn’t mind being a little more verbose!

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I suppose if there’s a theme in the book, its identity.  What makes you who you are?  That’s the question Sydney grapples with.  And, moreover, are you the person you seem to be?
Since When It’s Love is the first thing I’ve written under a pen name, the work was an exploration in my own identity.  Could I have written the same thing under my given name?  I don’t know.  Having a masked identity allows for a certain freedom…

What books have most influenced your life?

As far as classical books go, Wuthering Heights, which I first read in 9th grade, is as good as a romance novel gets.  But for contemporary influences, I’d have to say 50 Shades.  I say that not because of the writing or the storyline, but because the 50 Shades books mainstreamed steamy romance novels.  Suddenly it became okay to say, “Oh, yeah, I was up half the night writing about oral sex.”

What book are you reading now?

Teresa Mummert’s Perfect Lie

Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

My cats count as family, right?  So I’d have to say Nespresso.  What would I have done without the coffee capsules?!

Do you see writing as a career?

I work full-time as a writer and editor in a different genre.  I would be thrilled to be successful enough in the romance world to be able to write romance novels full-time.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I don’t think so.  Perhaps I’d make it a bit longer.  I feel like it works as is, though.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Since I first put pen to paper around the age of five, I’ve been writing stories.

Who designed the cover for When It’s Love?

Regina Wamba of Mae I Design.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The hardest thing by far was finding peace and quiet to write.  I have a very full and active home life which I’m extremely grateful for.  But, since I wrote When It’s Love in addition to a full-time job, it really came at the expense of family time/sleep/exercise.

As far as the actual writing went, writing about Sydney’s past was difficult.  I wanted readers to really feel her pain.  And if you’ll allow me to be very frank, it’s hard to write an orgasm.  It’s not just that the vocabulary is limited, but it requires the right sentence rhythms, otherwise it falls flat.  And no one wants a flat climax!

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I learned the importance of plotting and of figuring out where the book should go in advance.  In other fictional writing, I’ve always let my characters guide me to the end.  They surprise me, and I don’t know how a work of fiction is going to end.  That was still true of When It’s Love.  I definitely did not know what Sydney would decide at the end of the book until I got there, but in order to get to that last dramatic scene, I had to do some serious plotting.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Get it out as soon as it pops into your head!  And don’t get discouraged by rejections or bad reviews.  Just keep going until you find your audience.  Thanks to the simplicity of self-publishing and social media, writers really can get their work out there and reach the people who will be interested in it.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you for reading.  I kid you not, every time someone buys a book, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude!

What were the major challenges in bringing your story to life?

The characters have been rolling around in my mind for a long time.  I just really had to crack down on myself to make the time to write.  It wasn’t easy, but I did it!  So now all I can do is cross my fingers and hope that readers enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed writing it.  And, of course, I need to keep working on the sequel, When It’s Over.  I plan to release it in the spring.
